(OMAHA, Neb. – Jan. 24, 2005) The College World Series of Omaha, Inc. is again looking for eight college students to serve as goodwill ambassadors for the 2005 College World Series. Application forms for the 2005 Ambassador Program are available online at www.CWSomaha.com and can be found in the “About” section of the Web site under the “Ambassador Program” heading. The deadline for submitting applications, along with a signed release and waiver, is Feb. 11, 2005. Ambassador responsibilities include selling general admission ticket books, working with local service clubs to host and entertain teams and their families, attending all CWS meetings, special events and games, assisting the NCAA staff, attending media appearances, as well as a variety of other activities as designated by CWS event management. “The ambassadors are an integral part of the College World Series each year,” said Jack Diesing, Jr., president of College World Series of Omaha, Inc. “They play a large role in helping the teams and their families feel welcome, as well as providing assistance for the overall event. We feel it is a win-win situation as the students also get great hands-on experience that will benefit them in their education and future goals.” Although the Ambassador Program is a volunteer program, participants receive several benefits, including CWS apparel, two reserved seat tickets per session, parking privileges and food and beverages in the CWS VIP Club. Mutual of Omaha will again serve as a sponsor of this year’s program, offering one of the eight ambassadors a $2,000 scholarship. The scholarship winner will be selected based on interview scores, participation in CWS activities, input from service club representatives and CWS board members and overall attitude toward the program. “We feel that the Ambassador Program fits very well with Mutual of Omaha’s community involvement and our commitment to young people and education,” said Christine Johnson, First Vice President of Community Affairs. “It is a great way to really encourage the students to continue to develop their leadership skills by taking more initiative with the local service clubs to help host the teams and their families.” In addition to finding Ambassador Program applications online, interested college students can pick up forms at Meeting & Event Design, Inc., 5010 Dodge St., Omaha NE, 68132. Application forms also will be mailed to persons submitting a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Carol Foreman at Meeting & Event Design. Eligible candidates must carry a 2.5 (C+) or better grade point average from any accredited school and be free of other time commitments from their selection date through the end of the College World Series, Foreman said. Applicants will be notified by mail or e-mail of their initial interview time the week of Feb. 14. The initial interviews will be held Saturday, Feb. 19, at Meeting & Event Design, where candidates will introduce themselves to the judges. Judges will rate applicants according to their academic achievement, college and community activities, speaking ability, personality and appearance. The field of candidates will be narrowed to 16 finalists who will be scheduled for formal interviews between Feb. 24 and March 9. The eight Ambassadors will be chosen following these interviews.
