(OMAHA, Neb. – July 21, 2006) – Alison Benson, a recent University of Nebraska Medical Center graduate, has been chosen as the recipient of this year’s Ambassador Scholarship, announced Jack Diesing, Jr., president of College World Series of Omaha, Inc. Mutual of Omaha, sponsor of the College World Series Ambassador program, provides the $2,000 scholarship.
“I am truly honored to have been selected to represent the College World Series, the city of Omaha, and all the wonderful people that worked so hard to make the ‘Series’ such a memorable experience for the fans, the student-athletes and their families,” said Benson.
The Ambassador Scholarship is awarded annually to one of eight College World Series Ambassadors and is based on participation in NCAA Men’s College World Series activities and the individual’s overall attitude toward the Ambassador program, with input from service club representatives and CWS of Omaha staff. According to Carol Foreman, one of the officers in charge of selecting this year’s scholarship recipient, Benson was chosen for her outstanding attitude and excitement along with her willingness to take on additional challenges.
Benson graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in May of 2006. She began her first year of residency this year as an emergency medicine resident at Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. She works with a variety of health care needs including the intensive care unit, the cardiology department and the trauma surgery team. Benson grew up in the small, northeastern town of Wakefield, Neb.
Applications for the 2007 College World Series Ambassador Program will be available at www.cwsomaha.com beginning in late January. The ambassador program is open to all full-time college students. It provides a unique opportunity to look behind the scenes of the College World Series and to assist CWS of Omaha and the NCAA staff.
