Still Time to Register!
NCAA®, College World Series, Inc.® and the City of Omaha Parks and Recreation Department have joined forces again this year to present the Road to Omaha®
Run Presented by Northwestern Mutual, on Sunday, June 23. Northwestern
Mutual, an official corporate partner of the NCAA, announced that it has
signed on as presenting sponsor for the third running of the annual 5K,
during which more than 500 runners will raise funds to benefit Omaha
Parks Foundation and Starlight Children’s Foundation™.
“We are pleased to be a part of this year’s 5K event, which supports causes that all of us at Northwestern Mutual care very deeply about,” said Conrad York, vice president of marketing for Northwestern Mutual. “Giving back to the communities where we live and work is one of our core values. Being a part of the Road to Omaha Run is a perfect partnership for us.”
“This run is a wonderful partnership that highlights the best downtown Omaha has to offer in outdoor activity,” said Brook Bench, acting director for the City of Omaha Parks and Recreation Department. “Runners were thrilled with the course last year with the opportunity to run through TD Ameritrade Park and enjoy views of the river and our beautiful park system.”
The 5K run begins on the Riverfront Drive Trail just west of the Lewis and Clark Landing at 8:30 a.m. Central time. Running along the Riverfront Drive Trail to the Abbott Drive Trail, participants will enjoy great views of downtown Omaha and TD Ameritrade Park. Next, runners will enter the stadium for a complete lap around the field on the warning track where they can see themselves on the big screen. They will then proceed south to Heartland of America Park, over the pedestrian bridge to finish on the Boardwalk overlooking the Lewis and Clark Riverfront Landing and the Missouri River.
Participants can still register for the run at the pre-package pickup on Friday, June 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lewis and Clark Landing. Runners who are unable to register ahead of time can register between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. on the morning of the event.
Male and female winners in the overall, 18 and younger and 40 and older categories will each receive two tickets to Game 2 of the College World Series Finals. Remaining age group winners will receive College World Series mementos.
Proceeds for this year’s event will benefit Starlight Children’s Foundation, a leading global charity that partners with experts to improve the life and health of kids and families around the world. Collaborating with innovators in pediatric healthcare, entertainment and technology, Starlight provides a unique blend of family-centered programs and services from hospital to home. Starlight partners with more than 1,750 healthcare facilities and pediatric hospitals in Australia, Canada, Israel, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States, serving millions of children every year. Starlight is a partner in Northwestern Mutual’s national program dedicated to accelerate the search for a cure to childhood cancer and to provide support to the families facing the daily struggles of this disease.
The other beneficiary of the proceeds will be the Omaha Parks Foundation, whose mission is to bring together and allocate resources necessary to enhance the quality of Omaha’s park system. By encouraging philanthropic support and investment in a valued community resource, the Omaha Parks Foundation will facilitate the future of the city’s parks system, offering citizens the opportunity to leave a legacy for generations to come.
Last year, 516 runners participated and more than $15,000 was donated to local charities.
