CWS Sandlot Leads Off with Family, Fun and Nostalgia To Celebrate the 2014 College World Series
College World Series of Omaha, Inc., and the NCAA will fill the future site of a downtown high-rise development with the sound of laughter and the crack of the bat to create the CWS Sandlot at 15th and Dodge Streets.

The CWS Sandlot, which is 90 feet to the left and right field foul poles, and has 45-foot base paths, will officially open to the public, Thursday, June 5, and close Sunday, June 8. The Sandlot has scheduled youth and corporate events, but a majority of Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be open to the public for play. Barring events, it will generally be open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday through Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, June 8. You can check the schedule below or follow the action at #CWSSandlot.

Plastic bats and balls are provided. No outside bats, balls or other equipment will be allowed in the CWS Sandlot. Security will be present on site to ensure The Sandlot is a safe, fun, family-oriented experience.

“This is another fun and unique way of celebrating our community’s role in the continuing success of the CWS,” said Dan Morrissey of CWS Omaha, Inc. “This sandlot concept of baseball takes us back to the simple game young girls and boys play on playgrounds and sandlots across the country. It is the pure joy of the game reflected in the faces and experiences of the student-athletes and fans at the College World Series.”

To help celebrate the Omaha community’s commitment to making the annual NCAA® Men’s College World Series® a success, CWS of Omaha, Inc., and the NCAA are teaming up to create the CWS Sandlot. CWS of Omaha, Inc., the nonprofit, local organizing committee of the College World Series, and the NCAA, will fill, level and build the CWS Sandlot on the former Union Pacific headquarters site, where Lanoha Development plans to build a high-rise office, condo and retail space.

Work on the CWS Sandlot began Friday, May 30, at 9 a.m., and will include wooden fencing, an entrance, ticket booth, dugouts and scoreboard.

Parking is available on the street using city meters or at area parking garages.
