NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Register for NCAA® Division I Men’s College World Series® YES® Clinic Fueled by POWERade® Youth Invited to FREE Baseball Instruction June 14 and 15 (OMAHA, Neb. – May 20, 2008) –Youth can experience the excitement of championship baseball for FREE at the NCAA® Division I Men’s College World Series® Youth Education through Sports (YES) Clinic Fueled by POWERade® taking place June 14 and 15 at the Creighton Sports Complex in Omaha. Each day, the first 25 individuals to pre-register and attend the clinic will receive a free baseball glove, according to Jason Shockey, Creighton assistant baseball coach and YES Clinic On-Site Coordinator. “The YES Clinic is an excellent opportunity for girls and boys ages 10 to 16 to receive great baseball instruction, conditioning and life skills from some of the best coaches in the game,” Shockey said. “Selections are made on a first-come, first-serve basis, so early registration is strongly recommended.”Part of the NCAA’s premier outreach to youth across the country, the YES Clinics allow participants to connect with other young athletes while receiving baseball instruction from collegiate coaches and student athletes, who will be announced in the near future on www.CWSomaha.com. Check-in will be held both days between 8 and 8:30 a.m., followed by the clinic from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Register online at www.NCAAsports.com/yesclinic . Openings to the clinic are still available. All applications must be signed by a parent or guardian to be eligible for selection in the program. Confirmation letters will follow upon acceptance. Participants are asked to bring indoor and outdoor footwear to their clinic session. A glove is optional. Parents and guardians will have the opportunity to watch the clinic and attend the What Every Parent Should Know session. Local community experts, NCAA representatives and a student-athlete will discuss sportsmanship, wellness, injury prevention, NCAA academic and athletic requirements and “life as an NCAA student-athlete.” Since its inception in 1985, the NCAA’s YES program has reached an unprecedented level of popularity. Each year, YES clinics, held at selected NCAA championship games, serve nearly 10,000 youth ages 10 to 16 who engage in fun and challenging sports skill, life skill and conditioning sessions conducted by top collegiate coaches and student-athletes. YES is another way these coaches and student-athletes share the NCAA’s commitment to challenging young people to strive for higher levels of achievement in both athletics and academics.
